Chronology of cameras Le Materiel Telephonique
"Le Materiel Téléphonique", which was a subsidiary of the American Telephone & Telegraph, has kept the emblem of a bell recalling its liaison with Bell Telephone Laboratories which was the source among others of the invention of the photocell. LMT is known in the field of photography because of its selenium cells.
This unit appears to be an unfinished prototype of a camera for microfilm that have not been marketed, This is suggeste by the label: "Type 156 – Série A – N° 1." and, in addition, all parts are punched "0".
The unit accepts 35 mm film reels 9 cm in diameter for an image size of 24 x 32 mm.
The film winding is by alternating half turns of a large knurled knob, and a cam connected to this button is acting on the film press to release the film during the advance.
A push button enables to punch the film between two shots to separate the series.
A big two-contacts electrical outlet is present, but is not connected to anything.
There was also the outline of what should have been a frame counter of the feeler type.
Another feature, this camera has no shutter, and no space is reserved for it. The camera was designed to be installed on a stand with three bolts, and use could have been done in the lab under safelight with flash exposure. This would be uncomfortable for the operator, but this item could have been also an element of a fully automatic assembly with supply of the documents to reproduce by means of a treadmill, as it was done for the Postal Banking.
The lens is a "Paris Boyer Saphir 1: 3.5 F = 50 N ° 237516" (~ 1947) and the focusing is done by a large helical with 14 marks in five turns.
This camera has many similarities with the MS-35 developed by Lachaize for Microfilm Système.
